Mia Aniceto

Tell us a little bit about yourself …

My name is Angelica but I go by my middle name Mia; I use she/they pronouns. I am a feminist, a child of Phillipine immigrants, and a community advocate exploring the crossroads of mental health and education.

What’s your connection to Orange County?

My grandma lives here. I grew up in San Fernando Valley.

Share a little bit about your outlook on life …

My approach to life is grounded in compassion & curiosity. I strive to listen with intention, ask thoughtful questions, and embrace silence as moments of peace.

What’s your favorite book?

bell hooksAll About Love; Octavia Butler’s Kindred

What’s your favorite self-care activity?

Needle felting! With wool, needles, and a cushion, I stab fibers (with fierce concentration but also relaxation) to form 3D sculptures and create forest landscapes.

What drew you to community mental health work?

We all walk our own road to recovery and wellness. Community reminds us that a sense of belonging can help us actualize our healing. We learn practical skills to cope, manage, prosper. We check in with others, ourselves— which designs a world that welcomes emotions and mental health into everyday conversations.

What have been some of your favorite things about working at Pacific Clinics/REI?

Working in mental health at PC/REI allows me to collaborate and learn from a team of inspiring, ambitious, and promising providers. I’m grateful PC/REI emphasizes to pour intentional care, rest, and compassion into ourselves as support staff-- in order to continue supporting community needs the best way we can.

How has working at Pacific Clinics/REI – and in community mental health, in general – expanded your perspective?

Community mental health opened my eyes to the complex web of support, resources, and networks that we encounter throughout our journeys to wellness. There's a diversity of provider roles that contribute to one’s healing, from clinical to social, prevocational roles. Providers we encounter along the way represent opportunities to gain another tool or perspective for you & your story.

Why attend community mental health events, like those hosted by Connect-OC?

I encourage everyone to attend because I truly believe there’s always something to gain! Immerse yourself in fruitful conversations, learn new skills, and take moments to reflect on your journey, understand ways to share your story.
