What’s the best fit for you?  Virtual vs In-person Therapy

Want to take the step to start therapy but don’t know which environment is the best fit? Choosing between different modes of therapy can be overwhelming and intimidating, but don’t worry! Here is a brief breakdown of virtual therapy and in-person therapy:

Virtual Therapy offers convenience, privacy, and can be more cost-effective. It allows you to connect with licensed therapists from the comfort of your own home, eliminating commute times and fitting easily into busy schedules. This option is especially beneficial for those living in remote areas or with mobility challenges. With appropriate precautions on both ends, virtual therapy can maintain confidentiality; however, it may require additional measures to ensure a secure and distraction-free environment. Some individuals find that it allows an easier way to break the ice and connect, for example the therapist can ask the client, “tell me more about what’s in your room”. Depending on your circumstance, virtual therapy may be the best option for you.

In-Person Therapy provides a traditional setting where you can develop a deeper connection with your therapist through face-to-face interactions, but may come at a higher price-point depending on where you go. Some individuals find it easier to build trust and engage more fully when meeting in-person. The shared space can also create a safe, distraction-free environment conducive to self-reflection and healing. With this shared space, confidentiality is guaranteed, encouraging the client to experience more of an open conversation. Additionally, in-person therapy allows for a broader range of therapeutic modalities with no distractions, such as EMDR, art therapy, and somatic techniques which require physical presence to be most effective.

Want the best of both worlds? Ask your licensed therapist if a hybrid option is available!

Ultimately, both options aim to support your mental well-being. Consider your comfort level, accessibility, and specific therapeutic goals when choosing between virtual and in-person therapy. Remember, seeking help is a strong step toward a healthier, happier you—whatever format works best for you! There is no wrong way to take care of yourself, so try it out!
