Destigmatizing mental illness through a scientific lens.

December 04, 2020

As part of our Thriving through Connections: Mental Health & Wellness Conference, Dr. Michael Yassa introduces attendees to the latest research in neuroscience and neuropsychology, which explain the brain’s responses in emotion processing, memory, mood, behavior, etc. Through a scientific lens we strive to destigmatize mental illness and express the importance of mental health as a key health component. With his experience teaching and mentoring students, Dr. Yassa addresses mental health in a university setting. Many times, students struggle with seeking resources or speaking about their health. However, with the support of faculty and staff, students can safely approach help and feel heard. By emphasizing the importance of the relationship between professors and students, he offers his perspective on how to form better relationships as students navigate their academic path.
